Laurel Gardner, NIE Director, has worked at the Daily Hampshire
Gazette since 2003. She has worked
at the front desk, at the editorial copy desk, and in the business office.
Before joining the Gazette, Laurel was an assistant teacher at Hilltown
Cooperative Charter Public School. She holds a degree in Elementary Education
from Rider University. Among her passions are singing, acting, proofreading, and

Deborah O. Doulette, NIE Consultant, has worked with NIE programs since
1998. She is a certified social studies teacher and former school librarian. A
graduate of local public schools, Deborah's interest in newspapers began with
her "Persuasion" class at Amherst Regional High. She graduated Trinity College
in Hartford in 1988 and went on to receive a master's degree in American Studies
at the College of William and Mary. After living in the Washington, DC area for
8 years Deborah returned to the Pioneer Valley to start her family. She and her
husband have two daughters, a dog, and a cat. Deborah is a freelance consultant
to the NIE program, as well as a librarian at Smith College in Northampton.
